En 2017, 28 expositions en ont bénéficié (pour 50 candidatures) et ont obtenu un soutien financier du Ministère de la Tradition allant de 10 à 50.000€.
Parmi les lauréats, notons Chine, artwork en mouvement; Madame de Sévigné, épistolière du Grand Siècle?; Venenum, un monde empoisonné; Eve ou la folle tentation; Jean-Baptiste Perronneau, portraitiste de génie de l’Europe des Lumières; Laboratoire d’Europe, Strasbour 1880-1930; Hubert de Givenchy; Shakespeare romantique; Louis Malet de Graville. De Louis XI à François 1er. La Renaissance flamboyante d’un amiral havrais; Les sculptures céramiques de Pablo Picasso; Will Esiner, génie de la bande dessinée américaine and so forth……

Parmi les succès de l’ensemble des expositions temporaires, on notera, à titre d’data, Caravage à Montpellier (200.000 entrées), Caravage à Toulouse (plus de 80.000 entrées), Cézanne à Matisse au Musée Granet (plus de 200.000 entrées), Van Gogh à Bonnard à Marseille (plus de 200.000 entrées), 100 cooks d’oeuvre impressionnistes à Rouen (plus de 180.000 entrées), Joseph Cornell et les surréalistes à New-York à Lyon (seulement 37.814 entrées), Nicolas de Staël au Havre (104.880 entrées), Outre noir(s) dans les collections européennes à Rodez (172.920 entrées), Pharaon de légende, Sésostris III à Lille (105.600 entrées), Emile Guimet en héritage à Lyon (544.005 entrées), Samouraïs, 1000 ans de l’histoire du Japon à Nantes (92.311 entrées), Matisse. Si une exposition temporaire à l’Abbaye Sainte-Croix aux Sables d’Olonne est prone de recueillir au moins 60.000 visites (d’après les moyennes enregistrées pour les musées « de territoire »), reste le problème financier.
L’organisation de ces expositions est très coûteux; il faut obtenir des prêts d’oeuvre, éventuellement par le biais d’échanges, mais il faut surtout réaliser des travaux de sécurisation, assurer un contrôle everlasting et payer des primes d’assurances très élevées.
Le Maire Didier Gallot a récemment déclaré avoir travaillé sur le sujet de la sécurisation avec la commissaire des Sables d’Olonne.
Restent donc – en dehors du déplacement de la médiathèque – les prêts d’oeuvre et le paiement des assurances, sans compter toute la logistique et la communication nécessaires.
Même si une partie du funds de la Ville peut être orienté ponctuellement vers le Musée de l’Abbaye Ste-Croix, même si des aides culturelles de l’Etat peuvent être obtenues, on voit bien que le mécénat est une composante incontournable pour la réussite de ce projet.
