Study carried out by France Travail

A recent survey on the labor needs of manufacturing companies Mayotte reveals a significant drop in hiring intentions between 2023 and 2024. The study conducted by France Work in collaboration with Crédoc highlights the challenges faced by the island’s companies in terms of recruitment. “This study allows us to better anticipate recruitment with employers, but also to work on training needs, particularly in terms of qualifications, and to take the opportunity to inform employers about support measures in terms of training and employment “explains Christian Saint-Etienne, Regional Director of France Travail on the story of Journal de Mayotte.

Return to 2022 levels

Of the 3,068 establishments surveyed, 774 responded to the questionnaire, thus making it possible to draw up a portrait of labor needs by profession, sector of activity and catchment area.job. The study found that 77% of recruiters who indicated their intention to hire in 2023 made at least one hire. Subsequently, 80% of hires lasting more than a month were made by establishments having announced at least one hiring intention in 2023. It also appears that 47% of establishments are currently planning to hire, compared to 52% in 2023, marking a return to 2022 levels.

The reasons for this trend

Several factors explain this trend, including the difficulty of finding qualified candidates and the complexity of salary negotiations. However, government measures have helped maintain economic activity, thus preserving the ability of businesses to recruit. It is interesting to note that almost 80% of recruitment projects are carried out by establishments with fewer than 50 employees, thus reflecting the predominance of small and medium-sized businesses in the local economy. On the other hand, recruitment projects are decreasing among large companies with more than 200 employees and small companies with fewer than 10 employees.

6,266 recruitment projects

The sectors most demanding of labor are those of services, notably health, retail and agriculture. On the other hand, we observe a decrease in hiring projects in public administration, construction and the agri-food industry. “With 6,266 recruitment projects, we are returning to 2022 levels”indicated Mohamed Daroussi, Head of the performance management department, at France Work Mayotte. Despite these challenges, nearly 81.9% of companies say they are satisfied with the support offered by France Travail, particularly through mechanisms such as the Recruitment Action and the Simulation Recruitment Method. These initiatives aim to promote the professional integration of populations furthest from thejob and meet the recruitment needs of local businesses.
