Natalie Dessay welcomes us to her house on the banks of the Marne where she enjoys entertaining and making music with her friends and family. Married to the bass-baritone Laurent Naouri who is her accomplice and her ally on stage as in the city, surrounded by her children and her cats, she tells us about this cocoon, a real anchor point in an artist’s life sometimes lonely and exhausting.
“The house is mainly used to welcome musicians, passing friends, young people, who bring joy. It’s a house that is a real Spanish inn!”
When she was very young, Nathalie Dessaix (she had not yet changed the spelling of her name) was full of energy, playing the piano and especially dancing. With her parents, she goes to the circus and ballet shows: she wants to be a dancer! Later, around 18, she abandoned the tutu for theater classes at the Bordeaux Conservatory: she worked on classical plays, but also Marivaux and Jean Genet. And the singing in all this? She started it by chance with a woman named Josiane Saintrais, a butcher and charcutier…!
